Unlocking the full map of the Lands Between in Elden Ring requires players to venture far beyond the main narrative path. Among the most sought-after key items is the Haligtree Secret Medallion (Left), which serves as one half of the key to reaching the Consecrated Snowfield. Securing this item demands overcoming a formidable fortress and defeating a powerful boss deep within late-game territory.

Where to Find Castle Sol in the Mountaintops

The left piece of the medallion is hidden deep within Castle Sol, a snowy fortress located in the far northern region of the Mountaintops of the Giants. To reach this fortress, players must first gain access to the grand lift system that leads into the frozen heights. Navigating past the exterior defenses brings Tarnished explorers to the main gate of Castle Sol.

Preparing for the treacherous climb inside the castle requires careful equipment management and high level stats. The interior features dangerous spectres, exile soldiers, and fast-moving bladed birds that can quickly overwhelm unprepared players. Reaching the highest tower necessitates traversing through the entire courtyard and inner structures.

Defeating Commander Niall to Secure the Medallion

Before obtaining the medallion half, players must face Commander Niall in the roof arena of Castle Sol. This boss fight is notoriously challenging because Niall summons two spectral knights to assist him at the start of the battle. Defeating his dual-sword and shield summons first allows players to focus entirely on avoiding Niall's frost and lightning attacks.

Once Commander Niall is vanquished, a new Site of Grace will appear in the arena. Players can then proceed through the doorway behind the boss arena and take an elevator to the top of the ramparts. Following the wooden stairs to the highest point leads to a rooftop where a ghostly spirit rests beside the medallion.

How to Use the Secret Medallion at the Grand Lift

After collecting the left piece, players must ensure they also possess the right piece, which is obtained from Old Albus in Liurnia of the Lakes. With both halves in hand, fast travel back to the Grand Lift of Rold. Standing on the lift pedestal triggers the default action to hoist the standard medallion.

By switching the action prompt on screen, players can choose to hoist the secret medallion instead. This initiates a unique cutscene where the lift descends into a hidden passageway. Emerging from the underground path brings players directly into the foggy expanses of the Consecrated Snowfield, unlocking access to Miquella's Haligtree.
